Design and Construction of the “Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo” Motorway
Section No. 1: “Ruse – Byala” (intersection with Road I-5 “Ruse – Byala”) from km 0+400 to km 40+640 – total length: 40.24 km
The section from Ruse to Byala is 40.24 km long. It is planned to be built with a G27 cross-section and a design speed of 120 km/h, including four active traffic lanes, a central median, and two emergency stopping lanes. The segment will begin 3 km east of the Danube Bridge near Ruse, at a road junction with Road II-21 Ruse – Silistra, and will end just after the interchange with Road I-5 Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo, at km 40 of the motorway route, in the area of Dve Mogili.
According to the conceptual design, to ensure connection with the national and part of the municipal road networks in the section, and for crossing natural and man-made obstacles, the following 12 interchanges and viaducts are planned:
Interchange with Road II-21 Ruse – Silistra at km 0+580
Interchange with Road RSE1130 “/I-2/ Ruse – Nikolovo” at km 6+463
Interchange with Road I-2 Ruse – Varna at km 14+591
Interchange with Road III-501 Basarbovo – Ivanovo at km 23+282
Interchange with Road RSE2107 (Road I-5 Ruse – Ivanovo) at km 27+993
Interchange with Road I-5 Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo at km 40+071
Viaducts:
Viaduct over railway line at km 7+564
Viaduct at km 16+200
Viaduct over the Rusenski Lom River at km 20+912
Viaduct at km 22+553
Viaduct at km 36+901
Viaduct at km 39+456
At the crossings with roads (with or without interchanges), a total of 12 major structures are planned: 4 road underpasses and 8 overpasses. Additionally, there will be 4 agricultural crossings: 2 agricultural overpasses and 2 underpasses.
